Newcomers! IA Wants "U"

All newcomers who have signed up between January and September 1999 are cordially invited to a party being held at the Willow Creek Clubhouse on Saturday evening September 25th at 7pm to 11pm. This party is quickly becoming an IA tradition, and will be a good opportunity for you to meet others who are new to IA also. The party will be hosted by the co-chairs and members of the Welcoming Committee, and we ask only that you bring yourself and be prepared for good fun, enjoyable card and board games, and meeting others like yourself who are the "Newcomers on the block". Ann Marx, a long time member of Interaction will also be there to tell us a lot about the history of Interaction. Invitations will be mailed out to your place of residence or hand delivered if you sign in during September. A map will be sent also. Come prepared for a good time. We want "U".   Map to Willow Creek Clubhouse.

Financial Planning

Financial planning, figuring out a budget and picking the right stocks. Many of us know what we ought to do, but don't because of fear, worry, or lack of respect. Based upon Suze Orman's, "The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom," we'll discuss a path to your financial peace of mind -- having the power over fears of money: not having enough, having too much, taking action and not taking action.

Once a clear picture of your financial situation is established, we'll approach practical elements of being responsible to those you love -- wills, trusts, long term care insurance, life insurance; as well as being respectful of yourself and your money through the handling of your investments and debt; and finally being open to receive all that you are meant to have.

Please join us on September 24th to develop your financial "new attitude" and find financial freedom.

Human Nature: Applying the Enneagram

This discussion group has a practical purpose: learning about yourself and others, using the enneagram model of human personality. Participants are asked to read about the enneagram, in preparation for applying its principles to people's interactions. You don't have to read a book to participate in this group but, when you realize how "on target" this system can be and how much fun it can be to learn, you'll want to know more. Recommended introductory reading: The Enneagram Made Easy - Cartoons and comedy make this an enjoyable text and a convenient quick reference. The Enneagram: Understanding Yourself and Others - Most people can recognize their own type by reading the first-person descriptions contained in this book. The Enneagram In Love and Work - How the enneagram types relate romantically and professionally, a practical guide. Join us on September 10th and October 8th for this discussion.

Peddling Pedaling

An old Interaction tradition continues this year with the return of our weekly bicycle excursions. Come join your IA friends for a healthy and enjoyable bike ride every Saturday morning, June through September.

We will meet at the Carillon Bell Tower on Patterson Blvd., near the NCR complex and the Dayton Marriot Hotel. Our trip will take us to Sara Jane's on the south edge of Miamisburg for lunch, and then return to the Bell Tower. The trip normally lasts about three hours.

Please be ready to leave at 10 am from the parking strip across the access road from the Bell Tower. We will go every Saturday that the temperature is above 50 degrees at 9 am and there is no rain forecast.

Please contact Joe at 837-0751 by 9:15 AM if you have any questions.

Upcoming Core Events

The Interaction Core is the group of volunteers who keep Interaction active in so many ways. We have several special events each year to help them do their job more effectively.

Core members, please mark your calendars for the next Core "Retreat and Training weekend - Saturday October 2nd through Monday October 4th at Shawnee State Park. We will continue our exploration on seeing ourselves as others see us. This should be a beautiful weekend for fall foliage in the hills of southern Ohio. (map)

Core members don't get paid for their work, but they do get an annual core "Appreciation Dinner. Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 29th at 5 PM.

Women's Group Simple Abundance

September's song is a two-part harmony, as summer's lighthearted serenade ends and a deeper melody begins. Harmony is the inner cadence of contentment we feel when somehow we're able to strike the right chord - to balance the expectations of our families and our responsibilities in the world on the one hand with our inner needs for spiritual growth and personal expression on the other. Every virtuoso knows that it is the pauses in between the notes where the art resides.

As we return to work and school, we must not forget to pause, especially when the distractions of daily life deplete our energy. Pause to dream, to think, to contemplate what's working in your life and what's not, so that you can make changes for the better.

In our August group, we discussed the interconnectedness of nature and creative expression. This exquisite book and the group participants offered much wisdom and support to appreciate nature, live creatively and be grateful for our gifts. The Simple Abundance group for women is based on Sarah Ban Breathnach's book. This book outlines the six principles of Gratitude, Simplicity, Order, Harmony, Beauty and Joy as well as gives invaluable wisdom for quality of everyday living. This is a monthly women's group, however, you need not have attended the previous groups to join in.

Ladies Book Club

Attention all ladies who have always wanted to participate in a book club. We had a great discussion during our last meeting on July 30th. Our next book club meeting will be on Oct. 29th and the current book we are reading is "Mother Of Pearl" (Hyperion, $23.95) by Melinda Haynes. This book was yet another Oprah Winfrey pick. This book has been out long enough, that you will probably be able to pick it up at the library. It is also available in audio - both abridged and unabridged. So lose yourself in a book this summer and join us on October 29th. We hope to provide an interesting, fun discussion in which we can share our own insights. We plan to meet on the fifth Friday of those months that have 5 Fridays. If you have any questions, contact Melanie at 294-1353.

Chicken Soup Group

Would you like to occasionally be a part of a discussion group that is facilitated, but the discussion topics come from the interests of the members that night? Where members would share from their hearts mostly and not always their heads, and you could bring up an idea you'd like to hear other single adults perspectives of in a gentle and respectful way. Or maybe you have no specific concerns, but would like to show support for fellow singles in a caring way. You may find the Chicken Soup group just the place to be on the first Friday of each month. Join us in Sept. on the 3rd. Motorcycle Mania Interaction's motorcycling group is enjoying their road trips, and growing larger with each one. The July llth journey to Hueston Woods was extended to Kiser Lake by some of the bikers. On August 14th the group went to Caesar's Creek, and then on to Cowan Lake. A spontaneous and unpublicized trip to Metamora, Indiana, on August 29th featured beautiful scenery, good company, good food, and the "born to run" exuberance that makes motorcycling so appealing..

Many first-time passengers have enjoyed these trips, and all interested riders are invited to upcoming adventures. Details about future trips will be offered during Friday announcements. Or you may call Rick Lab at 513-746-5930 or e-mail 'labr@squared.com'.

Human Nature Group

You could argue that human nature is the best understood... or least understood topic for discussion. Examine any proverb or quotation, or a classic scene from the movies, and you are examining people and their behavior. In the Human Nature Discussion Group, you are invited to pose questions about behavior you have observed and offer your thoughts about heartwarming, aggravating or quirky examples are discussion.

People are funny, and you can appreciate that on the second Friday of each month. Join us on Sept 10th and also on Oct 8th for this group.

The editor of this newsletter wishes to announce the addition of a new core member to the newsletter committee. Cheez-it started out by "helping" with the mailing and getting the newsletter ready to take to the post office. "It only took 20 minutes longer than usual to get it ready to go with Cheez-it's help.", reported Ann, another committee member.
